Table 1: Shadowlands/Unicorn vs. Lion/Naga
Battlefield:
The field was set up similar to the finals at GenCon 2001. Three jade mines, one on each side, plus one in the center. The mines were the objective victory points. Capture and hold the closest mine to your deployment zone for one VP, center for two and three for the opponent's mine.
Set-up:
The table was approximately 5 x 5, a bit tight for two 1500 point army on each side. The teams was originally determined randomly, but the Naga paired up with the Shadowlands, so it turned to be boys (Lion and Naga) vs. girls (Shadowlands and Unicorn). With such a tight deployment zone, everyone was forced to staggered their units.
Turn 1:
The first turn everyone just moved toward each other, seeming to ignore their own mines (or they want to capture the center one). The Naga Pearl of Movement on his Naga Bushi unit. While the Shadowlands and Unicorn laid down some range attack from the Shinjo Horsebowmen lead by Iuchi Daiyu and Oni no Taki Bi. Minor wounds was caused, not much action.
Turn 2:
The Unicorn played "Know the Terrain" on her Battle Maidens lead by Otaku Kamoko (Exp.), getting ready to rush through the shrubs and engage the Naga Bushi, lead by a Naga Warlord. Her Ki-Rin Wardogs lead by Shinjo Sanetama, followed up close behind to cover the Battle Maiden's flank.
The Battle Maidens charged the Naga Bushi during cavalry phase. The Warcats lead by Matsu Imura pondered about engaging but decided to wait to draw in the Wardogs.
More sporatic range attacks from the Shinjo Horsebowmen and Oni no Taki Bi on the Naga Rattlers. Oni no Sanru Lord took to the air.
Turn 3:
The Wardogs joined the fray and engaged the Naga Bushi, unforming them. The Warcats charged the dogs killing two, leaving the dogs unable to retaliate. The Hooded Warriors lead by a Naga Warlord charged the Battle Maidens, to help their Bushi brothen. The Unicorn Striders lead by inexperience Chui was having difficult time deciding to engage the Warcats or take the mine.
The Naga Bushi lead by Shahadet got a burst of speed from a Pearl of Movement and slam into the Horsebowmen, killing 7. But they held their ground. The Ogre Warriors lead by an Ogre Bushi was pinned behind the Horsebowmen so decided to manuver arond them.
Taki Bi continued his barrage on the Naga Rattlers with another volley of missile fire.
Turn 4:
The Naga Rattlers finally broke from the barrages of Oni no Taki Bi, the Warcats had grim determination in killing the Wardogs, killing two more dogs in their fast strike and stood their ground.
The last remaining Horsebowmen was cut down by the Naga Bushi, breaking Daiyu. The Ogre Warriors havn't tasted blood yet, was unsure if they could take on the frenzied Naga Bushi also broke.
The Matsu House Guards lead by Matsu Goehei saw the Shadowlands line waver and prepared for a charge. The Marsh Trolls lead by Moto Tsume (exp) was not going to give up the jade mine and stood guard by the woods next to it. Goehei rallied his troops to charge the Trolls but they hesitated. While Oni no Sanru Lord circled above, like a vulture, knowing death was coming soon.
Turn 5:

The Warcats killed more dogs, while the Battle Maidens slowly dwindle the Naga Bushi force. The Hooded Warriors didn't do much to the heavily armored Battle Maidens. Oni no Taki Bi was not going to let the Rattlers escape, fired another volley, routing them.
Another unit of Naga Bushi lead by a Naga Warlord ran up the center hill. The Striders turned to face the coming threat. The Naga Bushi charged and engaged the Striders.
Iuchi Daiyu tried to flee off the battlefield, with the Ogres closely behind him. The Naga Bushi then turned their attention on the Marsh Trolls, flanking them. Once Daiyu was out of the thick of things, composed himself and rallied back. The Ogres was not as lucky and continued to flee off the battlefield. Gohei again tried to motivate his troops, but they were undecided on if they wish to get into the battle.
Turn 6:

Iuchi Daiyu decided to head for the mines, since he wasn't going to be very effective on the battlefield. The Matsu House Guards finally charged the Marsh Trolls from the front, as they were occupied by the Naga on their flank. Oni no Sanru Lord saw his opportunity and flanked the Matsu House Guards, but the House Guard was in this for Gohei. The other units of Lion Medium Regulars continue to bring up the rear of the House Guards. The Ogres continue to run, trying to find some safe cover.
The Naga Bushi cut the Striders' force by 25% in a round. The Naga Rattlers continued to flee off the battlefield. The Warcats continue to finish off the Wardogs, just as the Battle Maidens did on the Naga Bushi. Oni no Taki Bi pondered about flanking the Naga Bushis that is engaged with the Striders.
Turn 7:
Oni no Sanru Lord challenged Matsu Gohei to a duel, but Gohei was no match for the big Oni. The House Guards broke, and started to run. With parting shots from the Oni and the Marsh Trolls, the House Guards was completely destroyed.
The striders took more casualties as the Naga Bushi's high strike advantage was unstoppable.
Game was called due to time. It was a close battle VP wise. No one captured any of the mines objective. Shadowlands conceeded the victory to the Naga.
